Rainbow week: colour on the menu

A week of noticing colourful food, with familiar meals and room for children to explore at their own pace.

Five small invitations

Monday: notice red tomato in your approved pasta sauce. Tuesday: explore orange pumpkin in a familiar soup. Wednesday: add soft green vegetables to an approved rice meal. Thursday: offer a variety of suitable fruit colours. Friday: revisit the children’s favourite meal from the week. Colour is a conversation prompt; a complete menu needs its normal nutrition review.

An easy group activity

Make six Soft fruit colour bowls with two bananas, two very ripe pears and 150 g strawberries. Adults wash and prepare the fruit for each child’s eating abilities. Children choose with individual utensils; tasting is optional.

Keep the plate practical

Avoid food challenges, eating competitions and rewards for finishing. A familiar accepted option can sit beside something to explore. Review sensory preferences and individual feeding support with educators and families.

Allergy and texture checks

A colourful food is not automatically suitable. Check every fruit and any yoghurt or topping against individual plans. Do not use whole grapes, hard raw pieces, skewers or other choking hazards as decorations.
